My friend, Holley Gerth, asked us God-sized dreamers to write a letter to the yipping Chihuahua of Fear this week. You know, that loud, intimidating fear that tries to keep us from really living. . . but turns out to be nothing?
The problem is, it’s not the Chihuahua’s that I’m scared of. It’s the lions.
Not the MGM lion, safely contained on the movie screen. The big, powerful lions roaring at us when we go full-force in to our God-sized dreams.
- The threat of real danger when you finally touch down on foreign soil where you’ll help children with AIDS.
- The fear of being robbed, or worse, as you love the unlovable on the street corners downtown.
- The fear of miscarriage, when you dream of motherhood, and you’ve lost three babies already.
These aren’t chihuahuas, friends. They’re big and scary, and you can feel their hot breath right in your face.
But you know what? I think that makes an even better letter. The letter that starts out:
Dear Ferocious Lion in Front of Me,
Did you know the huge, all-powerful God of the Universe—who loves me like crazy—is standing right behind you? …
Today at Not Alone I’m sharing how I faced a lion-sized fear that sprung up last weekend, and some ways God’s getting me through it. I’d love it if you’d join me there.
You’re friend in facing the lions,
I’m linking up this week with other precious women dreaming God-sized dreams. It’s part of a journey through Holley Gerth’s new book, You’re Made for a God-Sized Dream: Opening the Door to All God Has for You
