Not. Crushed.

“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed” (2 Corinthians 4:8).

As I drove home from another disheartening visit to my daughter’s doctor, I noticed a puddle in the road. Cars driving through it, disturbing it, splashing it, spreading it thin over the road, I thought to myself: “That pretty much sums up how I feel right now.”

Poured out. Flattened. Vulnerable. Spread thin.

Sinking to the floor of my kitchen, staring at the ceiling, wondering why. Why, God? Why the years-long battles for our daughter’s healing? The yet-again financial setbacks? The fresh pain in my scoliosis-bent back?

The puddle in the road whispers: Why isn’t important. No matter the why, I can always reflect the light.

God’s light doesn’t remain high in the sky. It comes and rests where the poured-out, broken one is. {tweet this}

It becomes part of us.

Reflects in the surface of the one poured out. Reflects in me—in you—even when we’re melted and run over by life.

“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in [us].” – 2 Corinthians 4:8-10

 . . . so that His life—God’s light—may be seen in us, reflected in us.

Nothing can rob us of that reflection, friend.

Resting with you in that truth,

– Laurie
