20 Beautiful Truths for When Life Seems Against You

This past weekend, I traveled to Arizona to visit family friends and spread the word about the book. My middle schooler came along, and I looked forward to time with her, my 7 year old and my mom. Driving the desert roads always clears my head, reminds me how vast and stunning God’s world can be outside the walls of city life.

Unfortunately, the idyllic road trip was not to be. Oh, the scenery was beautiful. . . radiant. . . endless. But the company in the back seat? The preteen with a mood disorder?

Not so much.

“Need anything back there?” I’d offer.

“Want to stop at [insert name of her favorite restaurant here] for lunch?”

Eye roll.

“How about going for a swim in that gorgeous 80-degree pool at the hotel?”

Friends, it was disorienting. I love traveling—road trips in particular—and I felt stuck. Stuck and horrible. I had this moody person-who-swallowed-my-daughter rooming with me on a weekend vacation to a gorgeous place. I wanted to crawl into a hole.

Maybe you have someone (or something) like that in your life. You’ve got a dream, and they have a complaint. You have enthusiasm, and the situation restricts it. You’ve tried, but life seems to be fighting you.

If that’s you right now, may I share what got me through this emotional wrestling match of a weekend?

20 Beautiful Things That Are True About You

And that’s just for starters!

When Scripture says “the truth shall set you free” (John 8:32), it means it. Will you trust that today? {tweet this}

It got me through 72 hours of negativity and projected anxiety this weekend. What will it get you through today?

    Oh let me see, I need just about every one of those verses taped on my walls, mirrors, forehead 🙂 My daughter turns 13 in a couple of weeks so I know all to well about the moody monster that swallows your child. It takes a lot of restraint and patience not to let it ruin my mood as well 🙂

    Wonderful beautiful lady! Thank-you for this reminder that we can lead by example in these circumstances and draw from within! And Above! 🙂

    I need to hold on to your list of truths and what a great tweetable. I need to be sure to come back and tweet (sneaking in quickly while at work. don’t tell). Visiting from the Godsizeddreams link up today and happy to find my way here.

    Love this, Laurie! We are studying Ephesians 1 right now… and so I am basking in His blessings! Thanks for the reminder.
